Garden update

Some of our Summer pickings....

A rock melon I picked recently, oh so much tastier than the ones in the shops...

The poor veggie garden is looking a bit barren and bare...

However,

there are twelve rock melons forming on their vines.

A few beetroot

Ready to pick...

 Strawberries...

Capsicum...

Lots of leaves but very small fruit...

Kale.

The last of the cucumbers...

The Basil has gone to seed...

Tomatoes are finished...

As you can see there is not much to report from the garden. After all the water that was put on the veggies over Summer, they produced very little.  Probably because the heat was so extreme.

We had a couple of very hot heatwaves with temperatures above 46C (115F).  These went on for a couple weeks at a time and the plants didn't stand a chance with temperatures reaching 50C+ (122F) on a few occasions. Even the plants native to this area suffered.  I lost quite a few plants this year that I had been growing well for years.

We have made the decision not to have the big veggie garden anymore.  Whether we have it on a smaller scale is yet to be seen.  It has been a sad decision, but as we are at an age where we can travel around more to see this beautiful country of ours, we are going to do that instead.  So there wont be any need for a garden J

What about your gardens? How are they fairing?

The New Gates

Hubby finally got his way.  He bought and installed some new gates to the entrance of our block.
He has been wanting to do this for the longest time.

Two big double farm gates...

With a small entry gate.

This will make the place more secure when we go away.
Especially now we don't have a dog to keep an eye on things.

I wonder who out of our visitors will be the first to accidentally drive headlong into them lol!

I would like to thank you all for the kind comments regarding the loss of our special dog Millie, she sure is missed around these parts...

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend. The weather is looking good here, hope it is the same where you are.

Fifteen Faithful Years

Fifteen years of unconditional love came to an end today.

I have a broken heart and have shed a lot of tears remembering the good times with our dear friend.
There will be no more happy greetings when you see us, no more doggy talks together, no more throwing balls...
Farewell our beautiful faithful friend Millie, we are definitely going to miss our special times together.

Be Back Soon

Well hello there!

Hard to believe we are into March already.  Life has been flying past at a rate of knots, and I am finding it hard to keep up.

Our Summer was not nice at all, with record breaking temperatures that seemed to go on for an eternity.  We had heat, bush fires and flooding rain, all very much typical of the Australian weather.
Sadly my veggie garden succumbed to the extreme heat, and I don't think I will attempt growing any more during the Summer months.

Smoke glazed sunset

Last weekend we witnessed our baby girl marry her sweetheart of twelve years. The setting in the Australian bush was spectacular, the weather perfect, the bride beautiful,  the food delicious and the gathering of two families a highlight of the day. I have many photos, and  hopefully will get some more posted on this neglected blog very soon.

 Family xoxo

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods J
