Home In The Making

This book was published in 1967 and I picked it up at a garage sale some years back.

The front cover is a bit tatty and the inside has been used with writing and script underlined on most pages. Someone obviously has used the instruction to live by at one time.

I have included this snippet from the last page. I thought it was interesting in the last paragraph how it says;

Manuka Honey

I thought I would share with you about Manuka honey.

It has great healing properties for a number of ailments. e.g. colds/flus, ulcers, wounds and infections etc.

I have been having this with my porridge for breakfast instead of sugar for the past 12 months and in that time have not experienced one cold. This past week I have been taking a teaspoon of this regularly throughout the day hoping to keep this dreaded virus at bay. This honey is expensive but well worth the effort. All I am experiencing is cold like symptoms that haven't got any worse thus far.

I shall keep you posted as to whether I get the full blown virus. I am actually feeling a bit better tonight apart from a croaky throat, us women must be made of tough stuff. (I haven't got time to be sick) I still had to find energy to prepare dinner tonight. For more information go here.


My son does not like honey so he won't even try it. Hubby tried the honey while he was sick and he said it was excellent for soothing his throat.

So anyone out there needing some soothing for your throat give this a try. Available at most supermarkets with the regular honey.

The weather is beautiful at the moment sitting at 24 degrees with lovely warming sunshine.

I have succumbed to the dreaded flu virus that is everywhere. Although I haven't got it that bad, dare I say it yet! Dear Son is pretty sick and had to go to the doctor yesterday for some antibiotics. He has developed a rash on his face that the doctor wasn't sure about, so prescribed the antibiotics. He hasn't been at school since last Thursday. It feels like every last bit of energy is drained from the body. I am not feeling like doing anything really.

Rainbows and Treasures

Last weekend we did a flying trip to my parents place in Kimba, South Australia, an hour and half west of here. We had a to pick up a twin tub washing machine. It was a very cold day with some rain in Kimba, but as usual where we live missed out.

I captured these pics of this beautiful rainbow coming home, near Iron Knob.

These rain clouds were going to dump some rain somewhere. Excuse the reflection in this picture, it was taken out the front windscreen while travelling.

Look at what we had given to us my hubby's mum yesterday. She is having a cleanout. I am not sure where I am going to put these, I will need to do some re-arranging. This is an oak tea trolley around 1950's? I have found a lovely doiley to go on the top with good morning and a picture of a tea cup embroidered on it.

And a Rosewood side/hall table. Love those legs. Around 1920's era I think.

This cute little bible has been handed down through the family on my husband's side. I think it belonged to his great grandmother. On the inside cover it is dated 1804 so is over 200 years old. It is in great condition for its age. All the pages are in tact except for a bit of wear and tear inside the front and back covers.

Recipe

I was given this recipe recently and thought I would share it with you all. This cake is easy to make and tastes delicious.

AMERICAN PUMPKIN CAKE

1 can pumpkin soup

4 eggs

1cup oil

2 cups of sugar

2 cups SR Flour

3 drops vanilla essence

Mix well; pour into large baking tray, sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon and chopped walnuts.

Bake in moderate oven 30-35 minutes. Check with skewer and if not ready cook an extra 5-10 minutes or until done.

(I used a 410gm can soup and omitted the walnuts only because I am not fond of them. I also added a little mixed spice).

Friendship

Look at what my dear sweet friend made for me.

A little friends box...

That opens up to this...

My friend has now returned home and our household is returning to normal again. I have been busy catching up with housework that was neglected while my friend was visiting.

We have sickness in our household at the moment. I thought we were going to be lucky this year and get through without getting sick. Dear husband brought it home from work, so I am now waiting to see if I come down with it.

The weather is beautiful at the moment with lovely sun shiny days and the temperature sitting on around 20 degrees Celcuis.

Jack had district sports day last Friday. This is where all the surrounding schools come together to compete against each other. He was successful winning the 100 metres in 13.43 seconds. He broke the district record and his own personal best record. He came second in the 200 metres, because he got the stitch half way through the race so that slowed him down, normally he would win. His school team also came first in the 4 x 100 relay. The day threatened to rain but it held off long enough to finish all the events.
