The view this morning from where I am sitting putting on my sneakers in preparation for my walk.

The covid-19 sign on the gate entering the racecourse.

More blue skies.

We decided to have fish and chips for lunch and go and sit with our friends. I don't think they know the new social distancing rules!

These birds have great eyesight. There were no gulls there when we pulled up, but they soon spied us sitting in the car eating haha!

Such a gorgeous day today. A beautiful clear 25C {77F) with no clouds or wind.

We bought a new freezer today. Its the one at the back and is kept in our outside storage room.  I needed more space to store frozen food because at the moment we are using our camping fridge/freezers to keep things in. Our local electrical store only got a delivery in today, and had already sold a few before we bought ours. Tomorrow I will sort out and organise these freezers.

Later in the day we popped into the local hardware store to see if there were any seedlings, and I got lucky!

Mixed lettuce.

Bok choy.

Cauliflower.

The empty beds are filled already.

I came up with an idea today. I had foam boxes ready to make into wicking boxes and sitting out in the veggie patch waiting for me to set them up. I brought them into the yard near the kitchen and found they fitted perfectly into the metal garden beds. I also had the big gravy containers that I picked up for free, and poked them in the spare space along the side.

I just need to source some more now to finish all the beds. I only need about twelve for now. My daughter in law thinks she might know where to get some and she will find out on the weekend. Tomorrow I hope to start setting them up as wicking beds.

How was your day? Are you having some of this gorgeous weather?

  1. I love your big long porch/verandah, that's how I imagine an Australian house. Your vegetable garden always looks and does so well, you have the touch. Keep safe.

    1. Thank you Christine.

We have a big verandah all the way around our house, so very Australian.

      Take care and stay well,

  2. Very strange Easter this year that's for sure..funny how the weather is going to be beautiful this Easter and normally it rains for all the campers. Getting another Freezer is a good idea. When we moved into this house over 8 years ago my big double fridge couldn't fit in the kitchen so I had to buy another one and I tried to sell the big fridge and no one was buying it so it sat in my front hallway for ages and finally I put it in the garage and thank goodness it didn't sell because I need the fridge and the freezer as the one in the kitchen isn't big enough. Have a good week. Kathy

    1. Hi Kathy,

We usually don't camp or travel over Easter because of all the cars on the road. But you are right about the weather, it is going to be perfect lol!

We thought about getting a freezer a while ago but put it off. Now I have extra in storage {because of the time we live in} so we can stay home, I had run out of room. And with all the extra cooking I am doing, I need to freeze the excess. When you are a stockpiler which I have been for many years, you have to have room to store things and that includes enough freezer room.

Enjoy the weekend and the weather.

  3. The weather here is as close to perfect as it can get. Those blistering, dry summer months are gone so I will not think about those for a while. I am enjoying the lovely days at home.

  4. It looks gorgeous there, Tania. Your garden is thriving. It is raining here in California today. I am grateful, because we had so many years of drought. This season we have had tremendous rains and snowfall. It's such a relief after the fires and dry periods. I still went out for a walk, and took my Labradoodle and umbrella. Am hopping into the bathtub in a moment. I think I will add some lavender tea to the water and soak...

    1. So good to hear you have had rain Stephenie. I hope the drought breaks here this year too.

Your bath time ritual sounds divine.

  5. That is a really good idea about the boxes and the wicking beds, Tania. You were lucky to get some seedlings -none of the places I went to yesterday had any -and they had no seeds, either! Lucky for me I have been learning to save seeds so I have something to plant.

    1. I had found it hard to get seedlings too and the store wasn't able to get them in. I did buy seeds just in case, but I prefer seedlings. I also have saved some of my seeds, and will definitely keep doing that.

      Have a lovely Easter weekend.

  7. I definitely got a light sunburn, as I pottered around the yard yesterday. It was lovely! Beautiful blue skies, although occasionally it's overcast which my indoors plants don't like so much! Love the look of your morning view, and the gorgeous bougainvillea flowers. I actually planted out a purple leafed variety yesterday. I'm just starting to get into bougainvilleas. My husband has been trying to talk me into getting them for years, but I had memories as a kid, living in The Top End, of knarly, thorny bushes. But I'm coming to really appreciate them now, as potential nesting spots for little birds, plus they can survive in our climate. So it was lovely seeing yours out in bloom.

Nice idea with the wicking boxes too. Here's hoping the tree roots don't cotton on! Some trees are darn persistent, wherever there's a water source. Instead of gravy containers, my husband brings home 10 litre tubs of empty ice-cream containers. Forever handy in the garden to mix soil, soak plants with fertilisers, hold compost scraps and even as regular containers for growing things - as you're doing too. Good luck with your new wicking beds.
