Garden

Luckily so far I have escaped the dreaded gastro bug that had hit my family.

I did spend a lot of time sleeping yesterday, so I must have been tired.

I awoke this morning feeling refreshed and ready to face the garden and the nectarines that are left on the tree.

Ds is a lot better, everyday there is an improvement and he is starting to get his appetite back. Hubby is back at work today.

On to the poor garden that had been neglected since Tuesday. I picked 40 apple cucumbers, (don't know what I am going to do with this many, will probably give them away). There is still plenty more on the vine.

Thirteen capsicums with more to come.

I forgot to include a picture of the box of nectarines I picked.

I will start cutting them up when I am finished on here.

I think there are way too many nectarines for us to handle so there will be plenty to give away to family and friends.

A lot has fallen on the ground but there is still an over abundance on the trees.

I was worried that I would find them all on the ground when I went out there this morning.

The grapes are also ready to pick.

A busy weekend ahead of us.

Thankyou for the many well wishes that you left for my family in the comment section. It is great to know there are so many caring people out there.

x Tania

  2. I'm glad you're all feeling a bit better, but please be sure not to push yourselves to do anything for a few days!
Wow, on the veggies! It all looks delicious. :-)

Due to our 41C temps on Weds, dropping down to a high of 15 today, I ended up with a bad chest cold, combined with brochitis... so I'll be cancelling care for the next several days.

  3. Lovely to catch up on your recent posts, glad you didn't succumb to the 'bug' and that the 'boys' are on the mend. Great to see your harvest!

  4. What excellent pickings! Are the nectarines white or yellow? White have the better flavour IMO but they don't store well- have to be eaten within a day or two of picking. We had a huge white nectarine tree three homes back. Its all I miss about that house!

  5. Glad to hear your family is feeling better! What a neat garden you have! It is still to cold here for a garden yet but I am thinking about it already. I ordered seed catalogs yesterday. I hope when it does warm up enough to start planting, that my garden will be as productive as yours has been!

  6. Ah, apple cucumbers!! My husband and I were looking at your pics the other night and wondering about the little white cucumbers cause we've never seen anything like that before.

    Glad everyone is getting better!

  8. Hi Tina

sorry to hear the bug is going around your house. Thankfully, we don't noramlly succumb to those gastro bugs but I know plenty of households who do. Hope it disappears soon.

Those apple cucumbers bring back memories for me of summers at the beach. Mum would make a salad like this - sliced, peeled apple cucumbers, (you never see them in the shops)sliced tomato, sliced onion rings. Place in salad bowl, cover with white vinegar and sprinkle with about 2 tblspns sugar. Do this about 2 hours before serving and it's a nice pickledy salad. Other than that, try Rhonda Jean's (www.down---to---earth.blogspot.com) Bread and Butter Cucumbers (I haven't made them yet but they look delicious and would get rid of lots of cucumbers and capsicums). Click on Preserving in the right hand column then scroll down a bit and there is the recipe.

I am in awe of your veg garden.

Have a good weekend - weather here is fantastic today. Good living weather! :)

    Cheers - Joolz

  11. I found you through Sue's blog. I have never see or hear of apple cucumbers. What do you do with them and do they taste like the green cucumbers?
