A Tragic Day for Australia

Australia is in mourning today.

Latest story here

Flowers for the two hostages that were sadly killed in the shootout this morning.

Our two heroes

 RIP Tori Johnson
34 years old and the manager at the Lindt cafe in Martin Place Sydney. He died when he wrestled with the gunman so others could escape.

RIP Katrina Dawson, 38 years old.
Mum of three young children eight, five and three. She died protecting her pregnant friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these two special souls.

  1. I can't wrap my mind around the senselessness of it. How a man with so many black marks against his name and known to Federal Police could be out on the streets is beyond fathoming. I think the judicial system has a lot to answer for.
Lives changed forever by evil. My thoughts and condolences are with the families mourning their loved ones (true heroes) and also to the brave survivors who have to live with the terror they experienced.

  2. A lovely tribute, Tania.
I wonder why that man was not in a mental institution. He was obviously unbalanced with a long record of strange crimes.
Those people did not deserve to be taken hostage. The victims did not deserve to lose their lives just because one man was out of his mind. Who is making the rules?
Yesterday's events might have been prevented. Those who knew this man well must have known what he was planning and yet they did nothing. They are also to blame for this horrible outcome.

  6. A poignant tribute to the courage of those who loved their fellow man so much they gave their lives for them.

  7. The manager was a brave man. So was the woman who shielded her pregnant friend. Australians shouldn't feel badly about that fanatic being allowed to run loose until he did something horrific. Our government takes the same tack here. It's not politically correct to arrest them before they act.
