op shop finds

1&2. A pretty cotton pillowcase
3. Pink gingham cotton fabric
4. Floral cotton fabric
5. Brown cotton fabrics. The brown is darker than the photo shows
6&7. Unicorn top for grand-daughter who is unicorn mad
8&9. Two bowl warmers. I had planned to make some of these
10. Pretty vintage dinner plate
11. Small vintage serving dish
12. Small cane basket for collecting eggs
13&14. Baking tin for a small loaf

It has been a while since I went to the local salvos thrift store. Due to C-19 their hours have changed and it was always shut whenever I went past. Lately I have been on the look out for all variety of cotton fabrics for making masks and bees wax wraps. Pretty happy with what I found today. Tomorrow I hope to go to the other op shops in town.

Are you an op shopper? What bargains have you found lately?

See you soon,
 xTania

  1. Gorgeous fabric and I love love, love the china. You can't have too many pretty plates. I wish our op shops were open, I am having serious withdrawals, and my pocket money is building up. I see a big shopping spree in my future as soon as lockdown is over :)

    1. Hi Cath,

I bet you are missing going out and browsing through the shops. We are lucky in that we are still able to get out and about, but we know that could change at any time.

I love pretty vintage plates, they are so much better than the modern ones. And vintage linen, that can be really pretty also and very well made.

Hope things return to some kind of normal for you soon,
      xTania

    1. I find myself shopping more and more in op shops and less in the other stores. I am buying most my clothes in op shops these days, can be lucky sometimes and find really good clothing in great condition.

      Have a great day,

  4. Great find. I made bowl warmers to use up my excess fabric and off cuts of wadding. They are going to be Christmas present. Luckily I made them before my craft room was demolished as the way things are going here I don’t know if it will be finished by Christmas

    1. I still might make some bowl warmers as I have the pattern ready to go. I have a heap of masks to make up first though.

Happy gardening in your new hot house,

    1. Hi Linda,

Opportunity shops or op shops is what we call them here. More often we say "oppy", which is our Australian way. Sometimes flea shop or thrift shop are used also. We have salvos, vinnies and lifeline being the main shops here in Oz.

It is interesting the other names in different countries. As you say we love them all!

      Have a great weekend,
      xTania

  6. Tania, I have been giving the Op Shops a miss since they reopened as I am trying to get rid of excess 'finds' that I haven't used. Now that we have to take the donations out of our car boot and put them into a big wire container without help I have been a bit reluctant to leave items there as I have a sore arm. I will have to box them up in small and light bundles. They don't use plastic bags anymore either.

    1. I understand your dilemma Nanna Chel. They were talking about this in the op shop yesterday. They have a drop off point at the back of the store, you just ring a doorbell and someone will open the slide up door for you. They cant pick up furniture etc because they haven't got any workers to do the job. Otherwise there are bins located around town.

I have bags of stuff ready to go to the op shop, but most times the bins are full to overflowing and it is very hard to get things in them. Mine is mostly clothing, with a few other bits and pieces. I try to stick to the "bring one in, take one out" method.

Everything seems to be changing in this new world of ours...it is hard to keep up with it all.

Hope your arm gets better for you.

  7. Fantastic finds! I love the fabrics and bowl warmers. I do a lot of shopping at our Salvation Army, but haven't been there since the virus hit. I have just been mending and darning what I have.

    1. Our op shops have been shut down too Stephenie, but now they are opening with restricted hours and rules. Only two days a week at this stage.

This was my first visit to the salvos since the virus, and it was quite busy with people in there. I am thinking that they should be open more days so people don't congregate there in amounts on the couple of days they are currently open.

Mending is a good idea, I do this too. I basically wear my clothes out before buying more, unless I see a real bargain. I have been buying my clothes from op shops for quite a while now instead of buying new.

      Have a lovely weekend,

  8. Love your finds, Tania. Lots of lovely bargains! I found a couple of things this week with two more books for my son, a pair of board shorts for him too and a green top for me that I have worn already. MegXx

    1. Op shops are great for finding books Meg! They always seem to have plenty.

Great finds for you too. The green top sounds nice, and I have found it a hard colour to get hold of. I'd love to own more green.

      Have a lovely weekend,

  9. Wow, Tania, you really hit the jackpot on your visit to that store! I haven't been op-shopping since the China flu closed every thing down. They must have been saving all those goodies just for you ;). The vintage plates are gorgeous! Are they Homer Laughlin, I wonder? Well, stay well and enjoy your haul.

    1. Hello Mary,

The large plate is Wood & Sons England and the smaller one is J & G Meakin England. I was very pleased with my haul, because it had been a while since I had been to any op shops due to the virus shutting them down.

      Wishing you a lovely weekend.

  10. Nice finds, Tania.
I live the plate and serving dish. So pretty.

I miss going to yard sales and thrift stores. Because of the pandemic there are no yard sales in the area now. Thrift stores are open, but I didn’t go to one yet.

    1. Hello Nil,

There are not many yard sales going on here anymore either. I love going to them too. Cant wait until things return to some kind of normal.

      Enjoy your weekend,
